Celebrity cook Fatima Sydow shocked her fans by revealing that her cancer has returned.
In a Facebook post on Friday, the author of The Journey of Cape Malay Cooking, shared the latest development in her cancer journey when she told her followers that she now has cancer in her lungs.
This after Fatima, 47, had announced that she was in remission, following successful chemotherapy earlier this year.
Fatima, from Penlyn Estate, was diagnosed with cancer in December last year and in April she underwent chemotherapy to treat the soft tissue sarcoma, a form of cancer, which was discovered in her left foot.
Despite the setback, the bubbly TV celeb cook remained positive and continued to create content for her social media channel, Fatima Sydow Cooks, on Facebook and YouTube.
Hours after her announcement on Saturday, the post went viral, she reached 500 000 followers on Facebook and thanked her fans for their well wishes.
On Friday she posted: “Hello everyone, got my results back this morning and unfortunately my cancer is back and has spread to my lungs. Please know that I’m very positive, and will need some time to process the news as well.
“I’m sharing this news with all of you because I love you all, and you all inspire me, make me laugh and make me smile, so I know I’ll need that, I’ll need that a lot. And lots of du’ahs/prayers, for all sick and frail.
“I’ve shared the news first with my family and closest friends. And now to the public. As long as I feel able to, I will still carry on with the good work.”
The post was shared nearly 500 times, with 39 000 reactions and 14 000 comments, with famous friends like Loukmaan Adams, Robin Pieters, Nur Abrahams and Madeegha Anders wishing her well.
Fatima and her twin sister Gadija Sydow-Noordien host a cooking show on Via channel on DStv called Kaap, Kerrie en Koesisters.
She celebrated her 500k Facebook follower milestone by hosting a lekker lunch with her four sisters Gadija, Hadjira, Khulsum and Nadia, which she shared on social media.
Gadija commented: “This is the first time we get to lunch together again since February 2020.”
