The Blue Downs Magistrates Court has denied deny the bail application of a Sunbird Park man accused of knifing his neighbour to death.
This was revealed as Dudley Wehr returned to court for his second appearance after he was charged for the murder of John Paul "JP" de Kock.
The shocking incident, which was captured on CCTV cameras shows the 43-year-old man known as JP being stabbed in the chest amid an argument after he volunteered to help a mom in need.
A relative, who asked not to be named, says they watched hopelessly as JP died surrounded by his relatives as he crawled home after the attack on 29 March.
The family member explains: "JP had a hard life. He originally lived in America with his mom but after she passed he came to South Africa.
"He got married but later split from his wife when paternity tests revealed he was not the father of their child and since then he has been working odd jobs here in Sunbird Park, like cleaning yards and so on for an income."
The relative explained that the day he died, JP had offered to assist a mom who was hosting a 21st birthday bash for her daughter for free and this allegedly upset Wehr and his accomplice.
He claims: ‘He offered to help her clean and set up for free because it was for her daughter’s 21st birthday. From what we were told, after he left he was talking to Dudley and another man who said something like: 'That was our money, stiek hom'.
"The footage shows Dudley stabbing him once. He crawled home in pain and told another relative to call the ambulance because sy bloed borrel.
"We suspect he was struck in an artery in his chest and had internal bleeding."
She says in his final moments he continually told his family that Dudley had stabbed him.
She adds: "Dudley handed himself over to the police two days later and was charged with the murder. He made his first appearance last week and will now be applying for bail."
In the petition to the court, residents say Wehr is known for his violent behaviour and they fear he may interfere with State witnesses if released on bail.
The family of the deceased says they were overjoyed when the Magistrate denied his bail on Monday.
"The state put forward a very strong case and his bail was denied, the case was postponed to 21 May," she says.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that bail was denied
