A klompie of grannies stieked uit for a jol at the Las Vegas Lounge for their adopt-a-granny event and the owner says it was a hit.
Owner of the Mitchells Plain nightclub, Celeste April, says she was happy she could put a smile on the dials of the oumas who attended.
“I would definitely do this again in a heartbeat. I am overwhelmed with joy. The faces of the people smiling, laughing and just enjoying themselves made my day, or days since it was over a few days,” a proud Celeste says.
“We did exactly what we wanted to do, even the ladies said the exact same words when they did their thank you speech.
“I am now looking forward to hosting my annual Christmas lunch for the cancer kids in two weeks’ time.”
Celeste says that she hosted a total of 180 grannies over three days - from Monday to Wednesday.
“I have decided to do this event every year, seeing that it was a success. Messages of support and gratitude have been pouring in from the elderly,” she adds.
“I am thankful for Classic Man Entertainment who sponsored their services with the artists and some biscuits and Peninsula Beverages sponsored all cold drinks.”
Ouma Bonita Woods from Westridge says she enjoyed herself.
“Celeste did wonders in my eyes.
“I was there with 20 ladies from my area. A lot of people assume that the elderly are OK and that we are happy and Celeste made sure she saw that we were, in fact, happy.
“People couldn't thank her enough. I had been wondering what I was going to do for my elderly group in my community and then like a guardian angel she came and invited me.
“We had Christmas lunch, cooldrink and gift packs, we danced and were singing also.
“There was an artist who volunteered to help people with their vocals.”
Bonita says Celeste’s family is known for assisting their community.
“She was working with her husband and two daughters. She is always with us and helping people out.”
