If 2020 was a breakthrough year for this hitmaking duo, 2021 is looking lekker for these two Wellington artists who are releasing their debut album.
Tjommies Jayricko van Wyk, aka RJay, 24, and Lethan Fisher, aka LK, 22, released their hit song Wikkel Wikkel during the pandemic, which received over a million views on YouTube.
The duo, who have been friends for 11 years, are now releasing their 13-track album called Dans Toti Son Opkom, on Friday, and say they never imagined they would become a household name, and nogal during a pandemic.
RJay says: “The music we make is unique, there aren't many who make our type of music. We describe it as lekker dans musiek.”
The friends each have a recording studio in their bedrooms at home and also produce their own music videos: “We write and produce our own music and we film and edit the videos ourselves. If it’s a shot of one of us, the other will film it, or if it’s a shot that needs us both in it, we ask someone, anyone close by, to film us,” RJay explains.
He says the album also has two tracks that encourage patriotism: “Weskaap Dans - this song is about our province, what makes the Western Cape unique such as Table Mountain and how lekker it is to be from here.
“Number 5, Suid Afrika United, is a song for the whole country, an anthem. Then at number 6, God Het ’n Plan, is a gospel type of song with a lekker beat, just to say thank you to God for the blessings with our music and to encourage people that God has a plan with all of our lives, we must trust Him.”
The album will be released on all digital platforms while many fans have already pre-ordered.
