Christmas has come early for 500 pupils at a primary school in Khayelitsha who were blessed with brand new school shoes.
And it’s all thanks to Gerald Nomlala, the director and founder of the Kasi Angels Foundation, who says the skoene was sponsored by Dr. Thandi Mgwebi and Dr. Enkosi Mondleki of Groote Schuur Hospital and the Toughees company.
Gerald delivered the school shoes at Isikhokelo Primary School in Site C, Khayelitsha.

He literally removed broken and torn school shoes from children’s feet to put on the new skoene, with the help of exchange pupils from Romania.
The laaities, aged between six and 12, were excited and grateful for their gift.
“The shoes were donated by Dr. Thandi Mgwebi from Joburg, Ms. Nomonde Qotole and family, Dr. Enkosi Mondleki of Groote Schuur and, of course, #Toughees,” says Gerald.
“I was assisted by students from Romania through the Consulate of Romania.
These students want to adopt my foundation and get more help for us around the world.
“It is the most disadvantaged school, surrounded by shacks and high unemployment.”
To date his organisation has donated 7600 pairs of school shoes to kids across South Africa.
Isikhokelo Primary School’s principal, Yoliswa Qomoyi, says the shoes are a blessing as most of the children are wearing broken ones.
“I cannot describe how I feel. This is a good start for 2020 for these children. Did you see the condition of their shoes? We are overwhelmed and thankful to everyone who made it possible,” the grateful palie said.
