A notorious group of gangsters from Mitchells Plain accused of an 11-year killing spree will stand trial at the Cape High Court.
The 14 skollies, who are allegedly members of the Junior Cisco Yakkies (JCY) gang, face over 100 charges.
The group, allegedly led by ex-cop Penny Ventura, are accused of brutally attacking rival gang members in their fight over drug turf.
According to the indictment, the group was embroiled in wars with several gangs across the Cape Flats from 2008 to 2019.
Among some of the gangs they targeted were the Ghetto Kidz, Fancy Boys, Mongrels and the Americans.
In one case in Strandfontein, they attacked a rival skollie with a sword and pangas.
They face multiple murder, attempted murder and gun-related charges as well as charges under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (Poca).
The court documents also list the details of innocent bystanders who were injured in the drive-by shootings carried out by the gang in Mitchells Plain.
A total of 165 state witnesses are to take the stand which includes cops, victims and medical experts.
After the group was busted in 2019, Ventura was outed as “Mama JCY” as the state alleged that she ordered several hits on her rivals.
The former police officer was paralysed after being shot at her Lentegeur home a year earlier and has subsequently died ahead of the trial.
During their bail hearings, the skollies refused to have photographs of their tjappies taken and came up with an elaborate lie to explain it.
The group had court officials rolling with laughter when they claimed JCY stood for “Jelly, Custard and Yoghurt”.
They were subsequently mocked by Lentegeur crime-fighters who dubbed them the “Pudding Gang” as they lauded cops for ending their reign of terror.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila says the trial will start on 25 April 2022.
