Two men accused of killing their girlfriends appeared in different courts yesterday.
Khanyile Ramba, who was arrested on 11 September for the murder and rape of 24-year-old Sinathi Magqazana in Hermanus, abandoned his bail application.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) regional spokesman Eric Ntabazalila said: “Khanyile Ramba appeared at the Hermanus Magistrates’ Court yesterday morning.
“He is charged with the murder of his girlfriend and damage to property.
“A rape charge was also added today which makes it three charges against him.
“He abandoned his plans to apply for bail and his case has been remanded to 11 November for further investigation.”
The victim’s mother Nozuko Mbovane, 47, told the Daily Voice that when she arrived at the accused’s home in Marikana informal settlement on Saturday morning, her daughter was already dead.
“Some youngsters came to inform us about my daughter’s death.
“He had put half of her body in a black plastic bag.
“When we removed the plastic, we could see her face had abrasions and in the back of the ear she had a wound.
“Her pants and underwear were around her thighs. There was a hammer near the body which is suspect- ed to have been used.”
Meanwhile Sithobele Qebe, 30, made a brief appearance at the Paarl Magistrates’ Court for the murder of his girlfriend Siphokazi Booi, 27.
His case has been postponed to 21 October, when the matter is expected to be moved to the Cape Town Regional Court.
The victim’s aunt Nontando Booi, 41, said they will find their way to the court.
“We will make arrangements to get to the court until he is convicted for the brutal murder of my niece.
“We are happy with the progress but the detectives keep saying they are still investigating even though he has already confessed to the murder.”
