Tracing operations are under way in Manenberg as shootings continue, leaving two more men gunned down on Wednesday.
Chaos erupted in the area last weekend where eight people were shot within six hours as rival gangs klapped skote.
In the latest shootout in Thames Walk, a 24-year-old man who was believed to be an employee at a Somali huiswinkel was killed, while a 41-year-old father of six was shot several times in the head in Tagus Road.
Vernon Visagie, Manenberg Community Policing Forum chairperson, claims that the incidents are gang-related.
“It is gang-related, these are not innocent people, but they are disturbing the lives of the innocent here.
“We can only ask the gang members to stop shooting and call a ceasefire, because the matric students are writing,” Visagie said.
The matric exams are due to start on Monday.
Police spokesperson Wesley Twigg confirmed that the murders are being investigated.
“Manenberg police are investigating a murder case following a shooting incident on Thursday evening, 25 October 2023 at about 8.40pm in Thames Avenue, Manenberg, where a 25-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded,” he said.
“In an unrelated matter, Manenberg police attended a crime scene in Tagus Road, Manenberg, where a 41-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded. According to reports, the victim sustained gunshot wounds to his head.”
Visagie adds that most of the gang-related shootings have the same modus operandi – where victims are shot multiple times in the head, face and upper body.
“These gangsters are making a statement. They know who their opposing members are and they are making sure they kill them,” he said.
