Five people have been killed in a bloody 12 hours in Delft and Belhar.
In the first incident, a man was shot in the Hague at 4am and two hours later near an area known as Temporals, close to Symphony Way, another man was killed while walking on Delft Main Road.
At the same time of the shooting in Belhar, two men were shot and killed in Drakenstein Way and at 3.30pm, a Somali male was gunned down, also in Delft Main Road.
Pastor Charles George, spokesperson for the Delft Community Police Forum, says: “A man was shot in the Hague and another one in Delft Main Road early this morning.
“Police were on the scene and they are investigating the circumstances around both deaths. Both happened within a few hours of each other and of course it cannot be said that they are linked or not.”
Pastor George added that the Somali was killed while walking in Delft Main Road opposite the old rental offices.
A 35-year-old Delft resident told the Daily Voice that the residents believe that the shootings are all gang-related and that they are terrified that more will follow.
“The gangsters just come shoot and do what they want here in the area. How must we feel safe?
“It is almost like they are just going through a list and just keep coming back. The police have been here almost the whole day.”
Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut says: “The circumstances surrounding a double murder are being investigated after two men, aged 23 and 24, were shot and killed in Drakenstein Way, Belhar.
“The motive is yet to be determined and the suspects are yet to be arrested.”
