Police say the human remains with the feet still intact which had been dragged out of the water by dogs at Sunset Beach in Milnerton belongs to a woman.
Nearly a month after the skeleton washed up, cops say DNA results confirmed gender.
Speculation arose at the time that the remains belonged to fisherman Durick van Blerk, 25, of Hout Bay.
In August the fisherman went missing at sea and protesters claimed cops had shot him and then tried to cover it up.
Captain FC van Wyk says the cause of death is unknown.
The woman is yet to be identified.
Anyone who has reported a relative missing may contact police and come forward with DNA samples.
