There are dark days ahead for the Regina Coeli RC Primary School in Athlone as thugs have stripped the school of its lights and wiring.
Skollies broke into the school on Saturday night and the damage was only discovered on Monday morning when teachers arrived.
Unathi Booi, the spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department, says cables were stolen and the total value of the items is still to be determined.
She urged the community to piemp the skelms and keep watch over the schools in their areas.
"We would like to appeal to all communities to assist us by reporting suspicious activity or the sale of goods obtained at schools to Saps immediately," Booi says.
Provincial police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana confirms that Athlone police are investigating a burglary that occurred at the school on the corner of 5th Avenue and Klipfontein Road “where [the] outside light and wiring were stolen”.
Residents voiced their anger over the theft and vandalism of the school.
On Facebook, a man posted: "Today I'm beyond p***ed off at some a**holes coming from the sh!t hole they call home to break into Regina Coeli school, 5th Avenue.”
Another commented: “Disgusting! Damaging an education institution.”
