Mitchells Plain Animal Welfare is on a mission to find homes for these dogs who were abused and beaten by children.
Founder, Vanessa Martin, 48, says people moving and leaving their animals behind is becoming more common.
“The one dog we found after a resident told us that children in the community were hitting and kicking the dog,” she says.
“When I caught them red-handed, it seemed like they were dumping her. I asked them what they are doing. They said an aunty told them to do it, that the dog is a nuisance and does not belong in the street.
“The Jack Russell, who is partially blind, was left alone after the people moved and forgot about him. [In the case of] a brown-coloured dog, for example, that we have here, the owners just moved from Rocklands and left him behind.”

Vanessa says this is a common trend this time of the year. “What we find during the festive season is when people clean their yard and their homes, they chuck their dirt on the field and their dog.
“The latest trend is when people move from their homes, they know that they are going to move and then they just leave the animals behind.”
