A Manenberg man accused of bashing his girlfriend to death with a broomstick has denied the vicious attack, claiming she was attacked by someone else in Gugulethu.
Ebrahiem Adams, 32, who is accused of killing his girlfriend Fildenhia Benjamin, 42, told the Athlone Magistrates’ Court yesterday that he was innocent and not behind the attack which left the mom of three with a cracked skull.
Adams was busted after a three-month wait for the results of the post-mortem report which showed that she died of blunt force trauma to the head.
According to the witnesses, Fildenhia was attacked by Adams in a jealous rage for allegedly playing games on another man’s phone.
During his bail hearing, Adams told the court that he would plead not guilty to the murder charge and claimed Fildenhia was attacked while selling pillow cases in Gugulethu.
The state opposed his bail application due to the seriousness of the crime and the state prosecutor said there were various witnesses who saw Fildenhia being attacked by the accused.
Meanwhile, Detective Sergeant Ntando Mzantsi from Manenberg police said cops had discovered that Adams’ first wife had gone into hiding for nearly seven years after she was attacked by him.
“In the reports, we discovered that he is married but separated from his wife for seven years now.
“We are looking for her as she also left home due to domestic violence.
“She fled and ran to the Saartjie Baartman Centre.”
The case was postponed to 3 December where the Magistrate will make a ruling on the bail application.
