A Mitchells Plain mom says she wants to remove her 13-year-old daughter from Glendale Secondary School after classmates allegedly called her a jintoe and made up a “ho” song about her.
The Grade 8 meisie says it started two weeks ago when she reached under her school skirt to pull down her T-shirt, which had ridden up her back.
She says she was also wearing tights under her skirt so no one could see her underwear.
But children in the class apparently took exception to this and started making fun of her.
“I heard children talking about me being a ho, a jintoe and prostitute. I ignored everyone,” the traumatised teen says.
“They started singing this song called ‘F***ing ho’. I told my teacher, but everyone denied it. I went to the principal and she said she’d sort it out,” the girl says.
But she says the taunting did not stop and every time she walks into class, her classmates would be singing the nasty song.
To top it all, her daughter was seen as the troublemaker and told to stay home until the final exams, says her mother.
“I’ve been to the school, the principal said it would be sorted out, yet she’s still being victimised, threatened and pushed around by classmates. I opened a criminal case against these learners. We are looking at having her removed from the school. She just started high school and I am not going to have her constantly tormented,” the mom adds.
Captain FC van Wyk confirmed a case of crimen injuria has been opened for investigation.
Spokesperson for the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), Bronagh Hammond, says the department was not aware of the incident.
“The Circuit Manager will be following up with the school to investigate and determine what support can be provided.”
