Mitchells Plain police are investigating the shooting of a man who was killed in Eastridge on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said cops were called to the scene at 11.40pm at the corner of Boekenhout and Kiaat Street.
“Police are investigating a shooting incident where a 40-year-old man was shot and fatally wounded,” he says.
“The circumstances surrounding the suspects and how they fled the scene is unknown.”
Police added the incident may have been gang-related, however residents told the Daily Voice the man was innocent and was walking home when the attack occured.
A 48-year-old friend of the deceased said: “There was a party nearby and he was just going home when we heard that he was shot.
“We heard shots but the whole weekend the people were bursting klappertjies so we thought it was that.
“It was only when somebody drove past that they said the body was lying there and then they came to tell us.
“For a long time it has been very dangerous for guys to be outside at night because the gangsters just think you’re a rival and they shoot you, but he was just walking home.”
The resident did not want to share the name of the victim while the family was unavailable to speak to the Daily Voice when we visited the scene.
The man adds: “Everything just happened so quickly.
“He was one minute at the party and the next we found out he was shot.
“It was crazy because nobody really saw what happened to him.
“I think people heard the shots but they sieka just thought it was fireworks.”
