The Delft community has once again been rocked by a shooting after a 29-year-old man was killed on Saturday night.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says: “Delft police are investigating a murder of a 29-year-old man who was shot multiple times in Junker Crescent.
“When police arrived on the scene, the victim was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel while no arrests have been made.”
A woman says the victim lived in the road and was known as “Nek” in the area.
“These guys meet on the field nearby and they do whatever with each other. I do not know what happened last night but something went wrong and so they shot him.
“When the shots went off last night, people went to go look and they said ‘hulle het vir Nek geskiet.’
“I know his real name is Angelo but I do not know his last name.”
When the Daily Voice tried to reach his family, they did not want to comment, while Delft Community Police Forum, CPF, spokesperson Pastor Charles George said that the community had a suspect in mind.
“We believe that the suspect was known to the victim and that information has been passed on to the police who are searching for those involved. It is believed he was shot multiple times in the leg and in the head.
“The people in the area are constantly on high alert and it feels like there is always more than one thing going on in the area.
“It is unfortunate that the shootings have become a norm while residents still have to deal with keeping to Covid regulations and now they are also scared of the possible looting situation.”
