A Gugulethu mother is begging for answers after her 30-year-old daughter was found dead after going to work last week.
Mom Nosipho Gquma, 48, says she last saw her daughter Nozuko Gquma alive on 19 July shortly before she left home to go work.
“Nozuko lived with me and never had a husband or children,” says Nosipho.
“She worked as a domestic worker and always cleaned houses in Gugulethu and then she brought the money home to help me.
“It was a Sunday just before 8pm when she came to me and said she was going to do some work for a lady in the community known as Soso.”
Nosipho says someone fetched her daughter and she heard her leave.
“A few hours later I heard people screaming my name. They told me Nozuko was beaten and I must come now to a house in Nyanga.
“When I got there she was laying face down and there was blood everywhere.
“I tried to speak to her and asked what happened and she just said ‘Mama, ask Soso’, then she died.
“At the mortuary they told me she was shot in the head but not raped.
“I am just begging for answers because I don’t know what led up to this.
“The woman who hired her came to my house afterwards but I was at the mortuary.”
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana says Nyanga SAPS are investigating a murder case.
“Police were called to a scene where a woman was found lying in 1st Avenue near the new houses in Mau-Mau in Nyanga.
“According to reports, the victim was found with head injuries and seemingly was dumped there.
“Through post mortem results it has now been established that the deceased was shot.”
Anyone with information about Nozuko’s death is asked to call Nyanga police on 021 380 6000/3320 or 082 469 2470.
