Golden Arrow says a story and photo about a bus being stoned in Mitchell's Plain and that has been circulating on social media is fake news.
According to the post on Facebook, the bus was stoned in Lentegeur early yesterday morning by skelms who wanted to rob it, and a stone had hit the female driver in the face.
A photo of the bus with broken windows accompanied the story.
However Golden Arrow spokesperson Bronwen Dyke-Beyer says while there was an incident, that is not what happened.
According to Dyke-Beyer, a female bus driver was rushed to hospital after the driver of a bread truck smashed into her bus mirror in Mitchell's Plain while she was en route to Cape Town.
The bus was on Merrydale Avenue just before 6am when the truck slammed into the mirror, shattering the driver’s side window, with the glass flying into the driver’s face.
The driver immediately pulled over and emergency services were called in.
None of the passengers were harmed during the incident and the driver was taken to hospital for treatment.
Dyke-Beyer said she was inundated with queries about the incident.
“A bread truck driver knocked the bus driver’s cab mirror, which shattered the driver’s window. Our driver sustained some injuries and was taken to hospital for immediate care.
“She is recovering well after the incident,” Dyke-Beyer said.
