A group of Cape Flats cops were awarded for skollie and drug mert tackling efforts in the Grassy Park precinct over the weekend.
The team, led by Parkwood sector manager, Sergeant Henrich Gordon, made headlines this month when they arrested an 18-year-old skollie who tried to bribe them with a R60 000 Christmas box.
Station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, says while Gordon was named the best visible police officer, his teamm which includes Sergeant Carol Strauss, Constable Raafiq Kampher and Constable Kurt Abrahams, was awarded for confiscating the most firearms at the station.
“They were awarded at the annual year-end function held at the League of The Friends of the Blind (LOFOB) on Friday night. Here they enjoy a dinner and we reflect on the year gone by and they really came out tops.
“The three team members showed their dedication to the job when they arrested that Yuru Cat who offered them a bribe.
“It would have been easy for them to take that money, but this showed the calibre of cops we have at the station.”
The team also arrested a dom mert earlier this year where they were in an unmarked car and the man, who is a known member of the Six Bobs gang, was arrested when he mistook cops for druggies.
“They go above and beyond and find clever ways to put these drug merchants away.
“They make us really proud and deserve this award.”
