Strandfontein residents were left shaken and confused on Tuesday evening when gunmen opened fire in Trafalgar Drive at a group of youngsters standing on the street corner.
Strandfontein Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Sandy Schuter, says 20 doppies were found on the scene.
“We were busy with beach patrols when we received a message from the street committee saying they heard multiple gunshots going off but didn’t know where it was coming from.
“We got to Trafalgar Drive and Marne Road where we found all the bullet casings and police were called in to cordon off the scene.
“There was much confusion because there were no victims on the scene and it was unclear who they were shooting at.
“However, with 20 shots being fired into the street it is a major cause for concern.”
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says Strandfontein Police have since identified two victims while a case of attempted murder has been opened.
“According to reports, two victims were standing on the corner when an unknown motor vehicle passed them.
“One suspect got out of the vehicle and started shooting multiple shots at the victims. No one was injured and the investigation continues.”
Schuter says the incident has highlighted their call for youngsters to avoid standing on street corners: “We are keeping a close eye on this to establish the motive behind this shooting and we hope it is an isolated incident.”
Anyone with any information about this shooting is asked to call Detective Constable Fiphaza on 021 370 1502 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
