Dancing gives them the freedom to dream, these Cape Flats dance crews say.
The kids are dreaming of conquering the world one move at a time, but need your help.
The hip hop crews, Young Breakaways (YBA) and Ci Ethos, from Set4Dance studio in Mitchells Plain have qualified to compete at the Dancestar finals in Croatia in May.
The YBA crew consists of nine dancers between the ages of nine and 11 years old.
Erin Whyte, the mother of one of the dancers, says each child needs about R30 000, to go towards their flights, accommodation and meals.
Because they are minors, the kids must be accompanied by at least one parent, who also needs to pay R30 000.
Erin says they are proud of the children and are appealing for assistance.
Her daughter, Kiara Whyte, nine, has been dancing for the past year and the mom says she had no idea her daughter is so good.
“We are very proud of the children because they will be representing Mitchells Plain and also South Africa,” she says.
“The children need to be accompanied by a parent, so this is an additional R30 000 for each family which we do not have the funds for.
“We as the parents would love to see our children perform and to make their dreams come true.”
The competition will be held during the month of May in the town of Porec.
More than 4 000 dancers from over 28 countries all over the world dance, compete, learn, meet new friends and have fun sharing the same passion for dance.
Erin says they have created fundraising pages on crowdfunding website Go Get Funding, where mense can donate as little as R1.
Go to gogetfunding.com and search Young Breakaways Dance Crew and Ci Ethos.
