This woman is lucky to be alive after she took a bullet to the head in a shooting where two men were killed at a New Year’s Eve party.
Jayden Atkins, 17, and Nathan Corner, 30, died in the suspected gang attack by three gunmen in Orchard Street, Scottsville, at about 2am.
The third victim was mother of three, Bianca Jacobs.
Bianca, 36, explains she and her husband Anwar went out to see who had been shot when she too was gunned down.
“My husband’s granddaughter came to tell us that two people were lying in the road in Orchard Street,” she says.
“Anwar put on his jacket (to go out), but my mother-in-law told us to stay at home.
“We first stood at the gate and saw that the road was clear, there were no people and as we walked around the corner, we saw the two victims who were shot.
“The one was still alive and sat upright.
“The other one was lying on his stomach, he didn’t move.
“I told my husband I want to go home after he wanted to see the other victim.”
Bianca says as she and Anwar were leaving the scene, more shots were fired and the next thing she remembers was waking up in hospital.
“I couldn’t believe what happened, everything just went dark around me.
“The doctor says I am lucky to be alive after a bullet entered the back of my head and came out the front.
“Today I can only thank God that I’m alive,” she says.
Bianca’s skoonma, Patricia Vollenhoven, 68, says it’s a miracle that she’s alive.
“I can only thank God that she’s alive or else her children would have grown up without a mother,” she says.
“We thought she was dead when the ambulance drove off with her.
“She was in hospital for one day and we were all happy when she came back home.
“She is the miracle mom of the family.
