CAPE Flats mense have rejected the apology by Nobuntu "Nobs" Mhkize after she appeared on national TV saying she was sorry for her comments about coloured people.
Months after dramatic videos of her racist rant on board a FlySafair flight went viral on social media, Mkhize made an appearance on Newzroom Afrika to tell her side of the story.
Mkhize boarded a flight from Durban to Cape Town on Thursday, December 26.
In the clip, Mkhize is seen pushing a coloured air hostess as she shouts: "F**k off. Go do your job" on a Boxing Day flight from Durban to Cape Town last year
As other passengers intervene, she shouts: “You're a coloured from Mitchells Plain, all these gold rings but no degree. Right now when we land, I'm going to take an Uber home. You don't even have a [driver's] licence. You don't even have a car.”
A criminal case of assault was subsequently opened by flight attendant Emmridge September, 24, who was accompanied by DA provincial leader Tertuis Simmers and his team as he registered a crimen injuria case against her.
In her interview, Nobs told the TV station that she was not gesuip saying the argument did not stem from the air hostess allegedly refusing to serve her alcohol.
She says she was given a can of merlot wine but wanted to drink something "lighter" and says the bekgeveg ensued when the air hostess allegedly refused to show her a menu.
Mkhize says: "I want to apologise to the coloured community. That's not who I am. I was not raised like that. Sincere apologies from the bottom of my heart."
Answering several questions, Mhkize admitted that her comments were wrong saying she is not a racist but was kwaad because she was being "attacked" and claims that she was fired from her job at the SABC.
Caroline Peters of the Callas Foundation says they found her apology insincere and believes she should be made to answer in a criminal court.
She adds: "If she is truly sorry she must stiek uit in Mitchells Plain and apologise to the people's faces."
Bonteheuwel ward councillor, Angus Mckenzie, who also opened crimen injuria cases against Mhkize, says: "We will not withdraw the charges nor will we relent in our pursuit for the racist Nobuntu to be held accountable for her despicable actions.
"Justice must be served and coloured women, in fact every person affected by racism must never ever be made to feel that way again".
