An Elsies River cop has appeared in court for two cases of smokkeling drugs to prisoners in police and court cells.
Sergeant Vion Hein, 31, was arrested at his Belhar home on Friday by his own colleagues.
The 31-year-old appeared in the Goodwood Magistrates’ Court on drug dealing charges.
A source close to the investigation told the Daily Voice that the accused works in the holding cells at the Elsies River SAPS.
“He was caught by his own co-workers, he was seen handing over drugs to a prisoner at the police station.
“The drugs were destined for another prisoner who was to appear at the Goodwood Court.
“But they never made it to the court because he was arrested.”
He was found in possession of a packet of mandrax and a packet of dagga.
Hein had previously been arrested on 29 April on the same charge.
He was found with 250 mandrax tablets and two dagga bullets.
Yesterday was his first appearance on both matters and they were heard in two different courts.
He will be back in court on 31 May for the recent arrest while the other was postponed to 15 June.
Police spokesperson Colonel André Traut says: “The 31-year-old sergeant working at Elsies River SAPS was arrested at his home in Belhar on Friday after he allegedly supplied drugs to prisoners in court and in police cells.”
Meanwhile in Blue Downs Magistrates’ Court, another alleged dirty cop, Constable Mncendisi Shezi, appeared.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesman Eric Ntabazalila says the 26-year-old has been charged with attempted murder, intimidation and use of a motor vehicle without consent.
“His case has been postponed to 8 June for bail application.
“On 20 May, he appeared on a shoplifting charge. This case was postponed until 22 June for further investigation.”
A police source reveals the constable allegedly shot and injured his girlfriend last year.
However, Colonel Traut didn’t confirm that it was his lover he had shot.
“The 26-year-old constable based at Kleinvlei Police station was arrested on Friday for allegedly shooting and injuring a woman in 2020, driving a state vehicle without consent as well as intimidation of a police officer,” he said.
