Mystery still surrounds the disappearance of two Kuils River teens who were found in Roodepoort, Johannesburg.
Nayoca Plato, 17, and her best friend, Robin van Leeve, 19, both went missing on March 1.
The teens were last seen at 7.15am near a McDonald’s on the corners of Kerk Street and Van Riebeeck Road in Kuils River.
After a frantic week for the families, they received the news of the teens being found unharmed and both families flew to Joburg to fetch the girls.
Nayoca’s father, Deon Plato, shared the news on the Kuils River Community Page on Tuesday.
The post read: “My daughter, Nayoca, was found in Roodepoort and is safe. I would like to thank KRC and everybody in South Africa who prayed for her safekeeping. You restored my faith in humanity. My family and I can’t thank you all enough.”
Yesterday, there were media reports that the two girls went “exploring the country”.
The friends were said to have taken a bus to Bloemfontein and from there another bus to Joburg, then 'got lost' in Roodepoort.
The Daily Voice spoke to a family member of Nayoca's who dismissed the reports as untrue.
The family, who were still in Gauteng yesterday, said they were trying to establish what had happened and were not willing to divulge any information.
They said they would speak to the media once the girls have “calmed down” and they have received all the information.
