A Bellville court magistrate has been killed while visiting a friend in Wallacedene.
Gwen Mziba died on Saturday night after a man pretending to buy alcohol opened fire on her.
This was the second attempt on the 40-year-old woman’s life.
A month ago, the Durbanville mother’s car was hijacked in Delft and she was shot and wounded in the ankle.
A source close to the investigation says Gwen was nearly crippled and could hardly walk.
On Saturday when the gunman shot at her, she tried to crawl to safety.
Gwen had been at the Fountain Road house getting her hair done.
“The man went into the house and asked to buy Savanna and the people said they don’t sell.
“He turned around like he was walking out. But then he went back and took out a gun,” says the source, adding that panicked people ran for cover.
“He shot once in the air, and then shot at the owner of the house who was left wounded.
“He went to look for Gwen and shot her in the thigh.
“It looked like he was aiming for the vagina, but missed and hit her in the thigh and she died from that injury. The homeowner is in hospital.”
The source tells Daily Voice that he suspects Gwen’s ex of being behind the murder.
“Just last month, she was shot in the ankle and then now this. She was in a relationship with that man for about six months.
“After her break-up things were never the same with her and this was clearly a hit because the house was full of people, and this was not a robbery, the shooter was sent to kill her, to finish what was started last month.”
Kraaifontein SAPS are investigating the incident.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk says: “Two females, aged 40 and 34, were shot by an unknown suspect fatally wounding one and injuring the other.
“The motive for the shooting is unknown. A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened and is currently under investigation.”
