A Mitchells Plain man survived the Covid-19 virus and wants to share his message of hope.
When John Witbooi, 38, from Rocklands was diagnosed with the deadly Coronavirus on 19 March, he felt the world crumbling.
John is one of five Mitchells Plain residents to have contracted the virus and was given the all-clear on 27 March.
The caterer explains: “On 12 March, we were working at a wedding venue, we were informed the following week that there was a positive case and we were all to be tested.
“I called the hotline and they set up a test at Groote Schuur Hospital for myself and three staff, they were negative, but I was positive.
“I was called by the doctor who said I was positive and told me to treat my symptoms.
“He said to take flu meds and lots of hot water and use boiling hot water in the basin with a towel over the head for steaming.”
“If it wasn’t for God, I’d never be in a positive mindset and healed.”
“It’s scary to know that I’ve had this virus that killed thousands of people.”
VICTORY: John Witbooi
The single father of one lives with his mother, sister, son and cousin who were also tested.
The Western Cape Health Department issued John with a letter to confirm that he can come out of self-quarantine on 27 March.
He adds: “ I just want everyone to listen to our President so that we can defeat the virus because the virus can’t spread if it’s not moved around.”
