A mother has been shot dead and a dad is critically wounded after they tried to protect their son from skollies.
Police were called to the scene in Stratford Street, Eerste River, on Sunday at 7.40pm where they found the body of the 60-year-old woman.
Sources at the scene reveal the woman had begged her attackers to spare the life of her son and was shot and killed instead.
When cops arrived at the scene, they found the woman’s body in the street.
Shocked relatives were too traumatised to speak to the media.
Eerste River CPF spokesperson Julian Unthank says: “I can confirm that the mother and father were shot at their home on Sunday night after gunmen entered the premises looking for their son. I can also confirm that the incident is gang-related.
“The father is in a critical condition in hospital. We will be addressing this shocking incident at a public meeting on Thursday at 7pm at Eerste River High School. These were innocent people that were shot.”
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, says cops are hunting for the gunmen: “A case of murder has been opened for investigation following a shooting incident that occurred in Stratford Street, Eerste River on Sunday at 7.40pm where a female aged 60, was shot and fatally wounded.
“According to information, police members attached to Kleinvlei police attended the scene and they found the victim shot and lying on the ground.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated, with no arrests so far.”
