The bullet-riddled body of an unidentified man was discovered in front of a gun shop in Elsies River on Monday.
According to a police source, officers were called out shortly after midnight where they found the dead man on the pavement in Halt Road.
Police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, says a murder docket was opened following the discovery and the victim and the suspect are both unknown.
“Officers were called to a murder scene in Halt Road, Elsies River, after the body of an unknown male was found with gunshot wounds to his upper body opposite a gun shop in Halt Road,” he says.
“The name and age of the deceased are still unknown.”
The owner of the gun store, who asked not to be named, says he has no knowledge of the incident as the store was closed at the time.
“I found out about it at 7am because our armed response told me about it. We have no idea what happened or whether they actually shot him here,” he says.
The police source says the case is very strange as no cartridges were found on the scene.
“There is nothing. We don’t know who the victim is, how old he is or where he is from. There is also no suspect, no camera footage and no witnesses. What is also strange about this case is that no cartridges were found on the scene,” the source says.
