A Grade 9 pupil from Mondale High School in Mitchells Plain, who was stabbed seven times in the boy’s toilet on Tuesday, is fighting for his life in hospital.
According to his father, the teen was attacked during interval and the wounds were so severe that his school pants had to be cut off his body after he was rushed to a nearby hospital.
The teen was then rushed to Groote Schuur Hospital where he underwent an emergency operation yesterday.
The family was unable to comment on his condition last night.
A police source says the victim had an argument with two pupils in the toilet.
“One of the two boys then stabbed the victim in the toilet, they ran away and handed a knife to a female pupil to keep. The attacker also has a previous disciplinary case at the school.”
A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for the stabbing and on Wednesday appeared in the Juvenile Court at the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court.
The case was postponed to 13 March for further investigation.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirmed the case: “A case of assault GBH is under investigation after a 15-year-old learner was stabbed by a 16-year-old learner at school (Tuesday) morning.”
Western Cape Education Department spokesperson Bronagh Hammond says they are aware of the incident and the School Governing Body is investigating.
“A stabbing incident did take place yesterday. It happened during break time in the boys’ toilet facilities. Two Grade 10 boys assaulted a learner in Grade 9,” she says.
“The learner was taken to hospital and SAPS were informed. An SGB hearing is being arranged.”
