A Mitchells Plain school has been robbed of electronic equipment, including an alarm, worth
R100 000.
The break-in at Ieglaasi Nieyah Primary in Beacon Valley occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The skelms even disarmed and stole the school’s alarm system worth R50 000.
School administrator, Faiza Bardien, says a security guard from a church across the road in Kyalami Street noticed suspicious activity at the school just after midnight on Friday and immediately alerted authorities.
Bardien says the school which has 385 pupils, has had several break-ins since they first opened as a daycare in 1995, “but this was the worst”.
“They stole all our computer terminals in the four offices, ransacked the storeroom stealing about 20 boxes of paper, took the PA system, the phones and broke the connection, took the alarm and wiring out, stole the children’s stationery in seven classrooms and broke some doors, windows, gates and locks.
“We do not know where we will get assistance, but we cannot do this alone,” the administrator says.
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, said a business burglary case has been registered.
“Goods such as computers, stationery and cleaning equipment were stolen, including various items such as electric cables, burglar bars and windows were damaged. No arrests have been made as yet. The investigation continues.”
