The teen mom, who abandoned her baby at Red Cross Hospital two weeks ago returned home on Saturday, “unremorseful”.
Asisipho Rwangqa from Siyahlala informal settlement in Philippi left her sick two-month-old son at the hospital on 7 December.
The 19-year-old said she was going to the tuckshop after visiting hours but then disappeared without a trace.
Baby Avuyise has been in social workers’ care ever since, as the family could not take the child home without the mother’s consent.
The biological father, Lwando Cubungu, 21, is believed to have run away with Asisipho, according to his relatives.
Then on Saturday, Asisipho returned home while her family was visiting her son at the social workers in Wetton.
But while the family is worried, the mom is min gespin.
Her twin sister Anesipho says: “It seems she doesn’t care, she has not said anything or asked about the baby.
“It doesn’t look like she’s stable, she’ll probably leave to her boyfriend soon. She’s not home even now.
“We visited Avuyise and he’s so handsome, I was relieved to see he’s in good care.
“For now the situation remains the same, until she acts responsibly, we only hope Avuyise’s situation will be reconsidered after three months.”
She says Asisipho has been somewhere in Lower Crossroads with her baby daddy.
For now, the baby, who was admitted two weeks ago with a runny tummy, remains with the social workers.
The Department of Social Development was not contactable for comment.
At the time of the mom’s disappearance, Department spokesperson Esther Lewis said: “Child abandoning is not a solution, there are legal procedures and our social workers are always available.”
