Athlone police are looking for four suspects who allegedly robbed the Vodacom 4U store in Vangate Mall on Tuesday.
Police say the robbers struck at about 1.15pm and made off with cash.
According to the police spokesman, Warrant Officer Joseph Swaartbooi, the armed men barged into the store and held customers at gunpoint.
“Unknown armed males entered a local retail shop, threatening the customers with firearms.
“The suspects opened the safe and fled the scene on foot with valuables and an undisclosed amount of cash.”
He confirms that no shots were fired and no one was injured during the robbery.
When the Daily Voice visited the store on Wednesday afternoon, it was business as usual and the manager at the store referred the matter to the owners.
One of the store owners, Francois Strumpher, confirms the incident and says he cannot divulge more as it is a “private matter”.
