A suspected skollie was shot and killed following a shootout between police officers and gangsters in Kraaifontein on Tuesday.
Scottsdene residents say rival skollies were shooting at each other and when the police arrived they then started attacking the officers.
They are now demanding the authorities to deploy more cops on the streets to keep skollies in check.
This area has become a hotspot for gang violence with four murders in less than 48 hours this week.
Last week, in the same neighbourhood, 11-year-old Duran Visagie was shot and killed by skollies.
A community member says: “The Ferrodos (28s) and The Skombizo Kids (27s) started shooting at each other on Tuesday.
“And when the police intervened, the gangsters turned their guns on to the cops, who then fired back and hit one of the shooters.”
The deceased, Payton Langeveldt, was hit in the chest.
Eight police vans showed up at the scene as cops started to investigate the murder.
Police spokesman Colonel André Traut has confirmed the incident, adding: “The matter is under investigation by the Independent Police Investigative Directorate.”
IPID spokesperson Ndilela Cola adds: “The investigation outcome will determine any action IPID will be taking.”
A gatvol resident, 50, says the government must bring back the army and Law Enforcement.
“The gangsters wait until the school comes out and they hide behind the children. Our children will die young if nothing is done about these gangsters," the resident says.
“We need the redeployment of the army and Law Enforcement.
"No one talks about Scottsdene, all we hear about is Hanover Park.”
This week, the Department of Community Safety deployed 60 additional Law Enforcement Advancement Programme (LEAP) officers to assist police in the latest spate of gang violence in Hanover Park.
