A loving dad and well-known taxi driver and his gaatjie have been murdered in Bishop Lavis.
It’s alleged that gunmen shot and killed Rodney Jackson, 50, and his gaatjie Graham “Shrek” Pasquallie, 30, for an undisclosed amount of float money.
Cops say Rodney and Graham were in the taxi along Maitland Road on Thursday just after 5.35pm, when they were ambushed.
Rodney’s devastated brother, Alvin Jackson, 47, says Rodney was a dad of two and their family are taxi owners.
SHOT DEAD: Rodney Jackson
“He was a taxi driver for 25 years,” says Alvin.
“He was such a warm-hearted person and to think the way they took his life, it is so unfair.
“The money, the float was missing from the scene, we assume that robbers took it.”
Rodney’s grieving daughter Tami Jackson took to Facebook, saying her father “was shot and killed by ruthless gangsters who felt entitled to his money”.
“He risked his life on the road every day to earn an honest
living, even when he knew how dangerous the industry had become after being infiltrated with organised crime syndicates.
KILLED: Graham
“I am angry because I’m tired of honest, hard-working people being subjected to violence every day.
“I am angry that our criminal justice system is so dysfunctional that those who harm others are hardly brought to book.
“I will never get to take him out for that beer tasting tour I promised him,” she wrote.
Police spokesperson Mihlali Majikela says a case of double murder has been opened and no arrests have been made.
