A mass baby shower will be hosted at Westgate Mall next week for a Mitchells Plain mom expected to give birth to quadruplets this morning.
Berenice Jacobs, 35, from Tafelsig made headlines when she appealed for help with her extraordinary pregnancy.
After carrying her four bundles of joy for 30 weeks, the mom of three told the Daily Voice that she is nervous but excited for the new arrivals.
She was admitted to Groote Schuur Hospital yesterday where she was informed by doctors that the birth would take place today via a C-Section.
“They were monitoring me closely and they were worried about the one girl that was very small but when I came in, they did a check-up and said all the babies are healthy and they will deliver [today],” Berenice says.
“I am very excited but I am also nervous because this is the first time I will go for a C-section.
“They told me that because the babies are small, they will be in hospital for a long time before they can go home.”
Berenice and her husband are both unemployed and live in a Wendy house with their three children.
Clinton Ruiters of the Caddy Owners Car Club says they have been planning a baby shower for Berenice for several weeks now and the grand event will be hosted on 12 September.
“We partnered with the Cape Charity Club and we will be gathering at Westgate Mall where everyone who wants to help this family can drop the goods,” he says.
“We will meet there at 12 noon and be there until 3pm and ride in convoy to her house.
“At this stage we don’t know when she will be discharged but we want to make her home comfortable.”
Berenice’s cousin Bronwyn Ruiters says although the family is excited for the arrival of the quadruplets, they are worried about supplies like nappies as well as clothing for the babies.
“At this stage there is nothing for the babies,” Bronwyn says.
“So we need nappies, towels, baths, toiletries, a cot, bottles and other essentials.
“We also ask that people think about the mom as well and assist with things she will need in her recovery period such as maternity pads, breast pads as well as household items.”
