Getting stuck without petrol cost the lives of two friends, aged 15 and 16, who were shot and killed in a car while waiting for the driver to return.
Police sources say Clinton Faroa, 15, of Leiden, Delft, and John Petersen, 16, of Belhar were both shot in the head while sitting inside a white Honda Ballade on the corner of Stellenbosch Arterial Road and Symphony Way, in Belhar, on Saturday just after 6pm.
The teens were sitting in the passenger seats of the vehicle while the driver left them to fetch petrol at a garage.
When the driver returned with the petrol, he found the two dead inside the vehicle with gunshot wounds to the head.
Police sources say the incident is believed to be gang-related and that there had been no witnesses present at the time of the shooting.
There were no signs of a robbery.
Shocked relatives rushed to the scene where crime scene experts began gathering evidence, dusting the vehicle for fingerprints.
Cops confiscated seven 9mm cartridges after provincial detectives were called to the scene.

“Two males, aged 14 and 15, were shot and killed on the corner of Stellenbosch Arterial and Symphony Way, Belhar, while sitting in their vehicle at 6pm by unknown suspects who are yet to be arrested. The circumstances are being investigated.”
A resident, who asked not to be identified, says he had been leaving mosque when he heard the gunshots.
“I came from the mosque and when I was on my way to buy food, I heard about six gunshots,” he says.
“They shot John and the other is one of a set of twins. The boys were driving around with the driver, we don’t know where they were going to.”
Blue Downs Cluster Commander Major General Vincent Beaton has condemned the shooting.
