A police officer allegedly shot and killed a skollie in Uitsig on Monday morning.
Naeem du Toit, 34, was said to be running away from the cops.
Witnesses say yesterday morning there was a gang shooting in Uitsig, when police arrived, the deceased shot at their vehicle.
“He was always involved in shootings in the area, and even yesterday’s shooting he was there,” says a female witness who asked not to be named.
“He had two guns, one in his hand and the other in his pants by the back.
“He was shot in the leg and even after he fell, he was still shooting at the police.
“He was shot in the back and the bullet came out the front.”
Du Toit’s mother Nadia Mintoor, 47, tells the Daily Voice that when she received the call about her son she was not surprised.
“I always dreaded receiving a call that informs me that he has been killed and my worst fear came true yesterday,” she says.
“I was at work when around 9.20am I received a call from one of my family members.
“He was still alive at that time, the ambulance took too long and he died after more than an hour.”
She admits her son was a gang member.
“He was in the 26s gang, people can say whatever they want about him but he wasn’t a bad person.
“He wanted to leave that life and I was happy about the idea of him being away from gangsterism.”
Ipid spokesperson Ndilela Cola said: “I can confirm that the Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the matter.”
