Mitchells Plain had its first official Pride Festival on Wednesday.
Cedar High School of Arts in Rocklands says it is putting back the pride of learning into his pupils and their parents at its inaugural Pride Festival.
Cold and rainy weather could not dampen the spirits of hundreds of school laaities as some of them took to the stage to showcase their talents.
The kids went bos when Cape Town rap star YoungstaCPT arrived to deliver a kwaai performance.

The festival, complete with stalls and entertainment, is an initiative by school teachers who want to restore pride in the school as residents and police fight social scourges in a community rife with gangsterism, drug and alcohol abuse, and physical abuse of women and children.
The Pride Festival also marks the school’s 30th anniversary.
Leading the project is English teacher Fagan Muller who is spearheading the school in a “good direction”.
“I have only been here for two years but I have already achieved my goal,” the onnie says.

“All I want is for the learners to be the change they want to see in the world because that is what I am doing.”
Muller told the Daily Voice Cedar High is a non-fee school, which means they rely heavily on fundraising.
“We find that students and parents are not proud of Cedar High School and this is supposed to be their pride and joy. So I am hoping to unite learners today and in this way attract their parents to enjoy the fruits of our labour.
“Today has showcased the many talents our school has to offer, including art, various forms of dance, rapping and loads more.”

Among the special guests on the day was Youngsta CPT who brought the roof down.
The rapper had his biggest Cedar High fan in tears when he brought her and her twin sister up to the stage during a song.
Caitlyn Daniels, 15, burst out in tears of joy when she met her favourite artist.

“I don’t know what to say, this is an amazing feeling, I am truly proud of my school and it was a dream come true for me to meet YoungstaCPT.
“I am too young to attend any of his shows and, boy, am I glad to be a Cedar High pupil today,” the excited meisie adds.
