An elderly Mitchells Plain couple is trending on social media after a video of their joyful reunion was posted on Facebook.
By yesterday the video was viewed over 152 000 times with more than 3500 shares.
Andrew Hoskin, 70, has been in hospital for two weeks, the longest time he’s been away from his family as visitors are not allowed.
On Sunday, his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren surprised him with a visit at the Mitchells Plain District Hospital to cheer him up.
What followed was a magical moment for the entire family.
Their grandson Aldeano Hoskin, who filmed the video, says: “We arranged the surprise because my grandparents have not been separated for this long.
“The last time they were separated was in 1992 when my grandma had a severe stroke, my grandpa dedicated his whole life to taking care of her ever since.
“We made a banner so that he could see us from his room, but the nurse allowed him to get fresh air because he could not see us.
“He was not aware my grandma was present.
“When he came out he started crying and tried to go back inside, we urged him to stay and walk towards the other side where he finally saw my grandmother and just cried with joy.”
Oupa Andrew is seen bent over when he spots his bride of 52 years.
“When I saw her sitting in the car, all the pain in my body went away,” he tells the Daily Voice.
Ouma Gwen Hoskin, 73, adds: “I am so happy to see the huge impact the video had on the younger generation and our love portrays the love of Christ. I love my husband.”
The family is still awaiting the oupa’s diagnosis.
