A massive manhunt is underway for a group of
bandiete who broke out of Malmesbury Prison on Friday afternoon.
A video, seemingly taken by a Malmesbury motorist, shows the prisoners in their bright yellow overalls running down a road.
It is not clear how they managed to escape or how many
bandiete are on the run.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Novela Potelwa says police from Malmesbury and neighbouring police stations on the West Coast with officials from the Department of Correctional Services have launched an extensive search for the awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped.

“The search party comprising of detectives, which is on foot and in vehicles has already covered much ground with the re-arrest of several escapees. Members of the public are advised not try to apprehend the escapees,” says Potelwa.
According to a notice issued by the Oakdale Neighborhood Watch in Bellville the watch received a notification that some of the
tronk voels are in the vicinity of the N1 and R300 highways.
