Muizenberg police have called on additional deployment into the informal settlement of Overcome Heights near Lavender Hill which has been riddled with gun violence this past week after another five people were shot on Saturday afternoon resulting in two killed.
Gun violence has been ringing throughout the community this week and it is believed that around 15 people were shot this week only as it has been ‘a busy week in the precinct’.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident and said that police deployments have been bolstered with the Anti-Gang Unit and other law enforcement agencies to monitor the situation and to maintain law and order.
Twigg reports: “The deployments will focus on high density operations and visibility in order to restore calm to the area.
"The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Saturday afternoon, 29 March 2025, in Overcome Heights where two adult males were shot and fatally wounded and an adult female and two adult males shot and wounded are under investigation.
"Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting and upon arrival on the scene they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.
"The two adult males were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims were taken to a medical facility for medical treatment.
"The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation. Muizenberg detectives are investigating two counts of murder and three counts of attempted murder.”
It is alleged that the shooting is related to taxi violence and comes on the back of earlier incidents.
On Tuesday last week, five people were also shot in Overcome Heights leaving a 21-year-old man dead and four other injured.
The incident took place in Mountain Road just after 10.15pm when police found the deceased riddled with bullets while four other victims were left wounded and were transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment
However, it is believed that the motive for this attack is gang related.
One resident said that the shooting is like a sudden flare-up.
The local, who chose to remain anonymous, says: “It's not just Overcome Heights but the surrounding areas have been riddled with gun violence the whole week.
"You can’t understand what is going on with these jongens because I don’t think they know they are shooting.
"Hulle skiet net raak, it is taxi violence and gang violence all at once.”
Multiple attempts to reach out to the Muizenberg Community Police Forum was unsuccessful.
Sergeant Twigg said that anyone with any information about this shooting incident is kindly requested to call Muizenberg police on 021 787 9000, Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS application anonymously.
