Macassar residents have called for more monitoring near the Sandvlei bos after the body of a second murder victim was found dumped this week.
Following the grim discovery of a male in the bulrushes on Saturday, cops confirmed that another lyk was stumbled upon on Monday.
Warrant officer Joseph Swartbooi said that the circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation.
He says: “Macassar police responded to a complaint on Monday 17 March 2025. Upon their arrival at the crime scene near Sandvlei on an open field, they found the body of an unidentified man who sustained fatal injuries. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by the medical personnel.”
"The unknown suspects fled the scene and they are yet to be arrested. The motive for this attack is yet to be determined.”
Community activist Christiaan Stewart suggests cameras and better lighting should be installed in the area to prevent future dumping.
He adds: “Then we can monitor this type of situation where bodies are being dumped in Macassar. That might be the only way police can get the footage of vehicles driving into Macassar, especially from Baden Powell Drive.
“I think this will be an easy way because there are only bushes around as you enter Macassar from Sandvlei side.
“The City of Cape Town and SAPS with the collaboration of the community need to work together to ensure that our community is safe because this dumping of bodies is getting out of hand.”
