A KAAPSE visserman caught more than he bargained for when fishing in Hout Bay at the weekend.
Jenashton Tobias cast his line at his favourite spot to catch yellowtail and thought he snagged a lekker big one on Sunday.
“Neddy” says: “I have this lekker spot where I catch yellowtail. I wanted to get a grote so my wife can make us ’n emmervol pickled fish for Easter.
“When I felt something on the end of the line, it felt like a big one. I was so excited.”
After a hewige struggle, Neddy he thought that maybe he was wrestling a seal or a haai as he had to wedge himself behind a rock to keep from being pulled into the waves.
He says: “I thought maybe a seal or a shark had gotten hold of my catch, because the line was stiff.”
“Then 10 minutes later I see a bra in the water holding on to his rod.
“And I pulled him to shore.”
After being pulled to shore, Timothy McDonald, from George, says: “I was fishing in a boat with friends and got pulled in. I still had something on my line though.”
With a vis still to vang as they both had their hooks in it and the two manne pulled out a groot kabeljou.
Neddy let Timothy use his cellphone to call his buddies on the boat, who they met at the harbour.
Tim says: “Neddy helped me get ashore after a confusing time. I let him keep the fish and even though he offered me a bakkie pickled fish, I don’t go in for that.
“I did offer Neddy to come out to sea on the boats. And we caught loads more fish.”
Neddy says: “It’s not elke dag you fish a bra from the sea. But Timmy is a lekker ou and now I can sell some fish from the ones that I caught.”
