Back in the day we had White Lightning. And now we have two Black Thunders.
Allan Donald used to have batsmen hopping around in their crease as he sent his bolts down at them.
But now the Proteas can brag about Kagiso Rabada and their bright new star Lungi Ngidi.
We all know about Rabada. The quick made his name almost immediately when he came on the scene in in 2015.
And at the green age of 22, King KG has already reached the top of the Test bowling rankings.
Now we have Ngidi, who made a dream debut in the second Test against India.
Things couldn’t have gone much better for the 21-year-old from Durban.
He got a late call-up to the squad after Dale Steyn’s injury at Newlands ruled him out for the rest of the series.
MAKING WAY: Dale Steyn leaves gap in attack
There was some doubt if the Titans ace would make the XI for a debut at Centurion, his home ground.
But after pipping five-cap Duanne Olivier for the nod, he didn’t look back.
Ag maybe a little bit. He only picked up one wicket in the first innings, complaining that the Pretoria pitch was not offering as much pace and bounce as usual.
However, once he got the ball last in the final session of Day Four with the track now powdering up, he came into his element.
He sent Lokesh Rahul packing before trapping India skipper Virat Kohli leg before.
And on the final morning, he cranked up the pace to grab four more wickets to bowl India out before lunch and finish with figures of 6/39.
Not bad for a laaitie on his debut, hey?
The class was there for all to see. His newer buffed-up physique means he can bowl for longs spells at the same intensity.
And best of all, coach Ottis Gibson has a talent that could turn out to be his No.1 protégé.
West Indian Gibson will be happy to have a kid this willing to learn and impress.
BOWLING GURU: Proteas coach Ottis Gibson
Ngidi will listen intently to his coach and that can only be a good thing for him.
Who knows, maybe his rise to the top of the game will be as quick as his ascent to India’s destroyer.
YOUNG AND RUTHLESS: Kagiso Rabada
Here’s hoping he and Rabada continue to dominate India and then Australia later this summer.
