Hugo Broos is the new top candidate for the vacant Bafana Bafana job according to reports.
The South African Football Association dropped the ball in persuading initial favourite Carlos Queiroz to sign on last week and are now said to be lining up the Belgian former coach of Cameroon.
Broos is a free agent and that could mean Safa get their man in place before Bafana’s World Cup qualifying campaign kicks off in just over a month.
The 69-year-old guided the Indomitable Lions to glory at the 2017 African Cup of Nations, before taking a job as sporting director of Belgian club Oostende – a position he held between 2018 and 2019.
With negotiations with Queiroz turning sour and Frenchman Herve Renard ruling himself out of the job, Broos now looks like the last man standing when it comes to overseas options for the vacant Bafana position.
