Cape Town City yesterday announced a “groundbreaking” technical partnership with Serbian giants FK Partizan.
City are hoping to use the Belgrade club to fast-track their players into European football, which is a wider strategy for the club.
Last week, chairman John Comitis declared that the club was not in the business of selling their players to their PSL rivals, saying that City’s ambition is to produce and develop players who can succeed in Europe and for Bafana Bafana.
Partizan also has one of Europe’s most prolific and successful youth academies, producing the likes of Stevan Jovetic, Lazar Markovic, Aleksandr Mitrovic and Aston Villa legend Savo Milosevic.
City said in a statement yesterday: “FK Partizan’s groundbreaking cooperation with Cape Town City Football Club is underway, as the delegation from Belgrade visits South Africa for the first time.
“The cooperation will see a number of elite African talents move to Europe in the coming years.”
