Former Proteas veteran and Royal Challengers Bangalore ace Faf du Plessis was the best-performing South African-born player in this year’s Indian Premier League.
While David Miller was the only South African involved in Monday’s final when his Gujarat Titans lost to Chennai Super Kings, it was Du Plessis who flew the flag for SA.
The 38-year-old finished second to Titan Shubman Gill, who played three matches more, in the run-scorer’s chart with 730 runs in 14 innings with an average of 56.15.

Heinrich Klaasen was the next-best SA batsman, finishing in 12th place with 448 runs in 12 matches at an average of 49.78.
SA’s bowlers didn’t have much of an impact on the season, with not a single South African bowler in the top 30 of wickets taken. Anrich Nortje finished in 34th place with 10 wickets in 10 matches, with Marco Jansen also bagging 10 scalps in eight matches.
