Ahead of today’s Premier League vote on Project Restart health and safety protocols, players are still not convinced amid the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Following a series of meetings last week, Prem bosses are moving forward with their plans to get the season up and running again by the middle of June.
Clubs are set to return to group training this week, but the actual restart to the season could be as late as June 26 as medics and coaches debate how long they need to get players match fit.
However, today’s vote on the latest group-training protocols to OK the return to training tomorrow or Wednesday has players
bedonnerd- especially since there is no guidance on any
contact training anyway.
Former England captain Wayne Rooney, who is player-coach at Derby, writes in his Sunday Times column: “I’m desperate to train and play again.
“[But...] our government says people can return to work but only with social distancing in the
workplace and that does not work in football.
“So I don’t get it: until the
government gives the green light to have physical contact, we can’t train or prepare properly.”
Chelsea winger Willian, in the Brazilian media adds: “Honestly, from what I can see, a lot of players - the majority, I’d say - are uncomfortable with the idea of returning right now.
“Our health has to come first.”
