In the midst of Royal AM’s unending courtroom soap opera to avoid the PSL playoffs and gain automatic promotion, the players reportedly just want to play.
The club is fighting the final standings of the GladAfrica Championships after the PSL awarded winners Sekhukhune United three points for Polokwane City’s failure to field the required five U21 players in a January league match.
And after failing to take the field in their playoffs match with Chippa United, who kicked off alone on Tuesday, Royal AM are scheduled to play Richard Bay today at 3pm.
With the club not sakking its vlag off the field, defeat in court will mean that they would have relinquished the opportunity of earning a spot in the Premiership, with their matches then deemed walkovers which means 3-0 wins for their opponents.
According to the Citizen, a club insider says some players don’t want to leave their fate up to chance, with the unnamed source saying: “Some players want this thing of court cases to come to an end and that we should fight our way into the PSL through the playoffs.”
